Description

Oolong Se Chung Tea 100g by Bio-Flavo

Oolong teas are classified as blue or turquoise in China. Oolong Se Chung comes from Fujian Province. Oolongs are made in several stages; as soon as the leaves are harvested, they are dried in the sun to wilt and lose moisture, then they are cooled in shaded places and finally placed in baskets where they are shaken until the edges are worn, which leads to faster oxidation. The process of shaking and cooling the leaves is repeated many times. The leaves may still be rolled up before being treated with high temperature (up to 250 °C) to stop oxidation. After brewing Oolong Se Chung tea, a delicate nutty note is noticeable.

Chemical ingredients in Oolong Se Chung tea

Oolong teas contain many biologically active compounds such as secondary metabolites, i.e. alkaloids (theine, theobromine, theophylline), polyphenols, minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, selenium, manganese, fluorine, vitamins E, A, K or group B. The content of theine in combination with the presence of tannins helps in faster fat burning. Theine absorbed in the intestines has a stimulating effect, although less than caffeine in coffee already absorbed in the stomach.

Polyphenols in Oolong Se Chung tea and their properties

There are some phenylcarboxylic acids here, such as gallic with antioxidant properties.

There is also a certain amount of flavonols such as:

  1. kaempferol with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, spasmolytic properties
  2. quercetin with antiatherosclerotic and antithrombotic properties
  3. myricetin with anticancer activity.

But the largest group are flavanols and especially catechins, of which epigallocatechin gallate is the most abundant. These compounds have a very strong antioxidant and anti-aging effect. Catechins have antiviral, antibacterial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiatherosclerotic and antimutagenic properties. It was also found that they lower LDL cholesterol, lower blood pressure, support faster metabolism, promoting weight loss. Studies have shown that oolong teas effectively support the fight against type 2 diabetes. To increase weight loss, it is recommended not only to limit the amount of food, but also to drink a cup of red tea after meals.

How to make Oolong Se Chung tea

Oolong Se Chung tea is brewed in water at 80-90 °C for 2-3 minutes; then the infusion has a calming and relaxing effect. This tea can be brewed several times, but subsequent brewing should be slightly extended by a few seconds. In China, it is first poured with boiling water, which is then poured out. This is the so-called wake up tea. Then it is brewed briefly, about half a minute, but even 4-8 times. However, 4-6g of dried herb per 100ml of water is used there, which is much more than in Europe (approx. 1g/100ml of water).
