Description

Cashewswhole Targroch 500g

Cashews are the fruit of the cashew (Anacardium occidentale). They are grown in South America, Asia and Africa. They are an excellent snack, not only very tasty but also healthy because they are rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-6, e.g. γ-linolenic acid), numerous minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, B vitamins, A, D, E, K.

Nutrients in cashews and their properties

Very valuable unsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) support the fight against "bad" LDL cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases (heart attack, atherosclerosis). The presence of vitamins A, D, E has antioxidant and therefore anti-cancer properties. Large amounts of magnesium and potassium help in numerous cellular processes (creation of DNA, RNA replication), have a positive effect on mental condition, prevent cramps, support muscle function. Zinc and selenium significantly improve the appearance of skin, hair and nails. It has been found that cashews prevent type 2 diabetes, hypertension (potassium), and help keep eyesight in good condition (vitamin A). A significant amount of B vitamins supports the functioning of the nervous system.

Of course, cashews also contain polyphenols, of which catechins (epicatechins) predominate. They are characterized by  anti-atherosclerotic, anti-cancer, anti-thrombotic and anti-viral effects.

Cashews have a low glycemic index (=15), so they can be consumed by diabetics without fear.

Cashews in the kitchen

Cashews are an appetizing, very tasty snack and taste best when eaten cooked, and that's what they are on sale anyway. However, they can be eaten roasted and salted or in chocolate. Thanks to their sweetish taste, they are used in various salad compositions. They have also found application in the production of peanut butter.
