Cranberry is a very valuable fruit recommended in the fight against tooth decay, urinary tract caries, heart diseases, stomach ulcers (Helicobacter). Fresh cranberries contain vitamins C, E, B, A, and are rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, manganese, copper, and iodine. Dried cranberries also contain a lot of organic acids (apple, citric) and significant amounts of fiber.

Properties of dried cranberries
Moderate but regular consumption of dried cranberries helps in the fight against gum diseases, periodontitis and tooth decay, with duodenal diseases, but above all with stomach diseases (e.g. ulcers) caused by the Helicobacter pylori bacterium. It also works well in cases of diseases of the bladder and urinary tract, which are caused by the Escherichia coli bacteria. Cranberry lowers the level of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides as well as blood pressure, reduces the risk of atherosclerosis.
Cranberry fruit contains ursolic acid with antiviral, antibacterial, fungicidal, but also analgesic, anticancer and antidiabetic properties (in relation to type II diabetes).
The numerous polyphenols in the cranberry composition have antioxidant (anti-cancer) properties, help in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's, Alzheimer's). Generally, it can be said that vitamins, minerals and polyphenols slow down the aging of the body.
Cranberry hinders the absorption of calcium, so do not overdo it with cranberry consumption when we have a problem with osteoporosis. In cases of taking warfarin-based anticoagulants, you should also eat cranberries in moderation, as it hinders the excretion of this drug from the body, which can cause bleeding.

2. flavonols (quercetin, myricetin) with antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-atherosclerotic properties
3. anthocyanins (malvidin, delphinidin, pelargonidin) delaying the aging of the body (antioxidant, anti-radical effect), lowering blood pressure, supporting the liver (also detoxification)
4. flavanols (tannins) - with antiatherosclerotic, antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Use of cranberries

Fresh cranberries are suitable for preserves, i.e. juices, syrups, jams, preserves, tinctures, cocktails. Jams go perfectly with meat and cheese. Oscypek served with cranberry is popular in Podhale. Cranberry also tastes candied. It is also a component of fruit teas. Cranberry without additives also works well as an infusion for rinsing the mouth in periodontal diseases.
