Description

Dried goji berries 250g Targroch

Dried goji berries are harvested from the wolfberry plant (Lycium barbarum), which grows wild in Tibet and is widely cultivated mainly in China. They are a real "vitamin bomb" because they contain as many as 19 (!) amino acids, large amounts of vitamins, minerals (as many as 21) and health-promoting polyphenols. Therefore, they are included in the group of so-called superfoods.

Health properties and chemical composition of goji berries

Goji berries contain very large amounts of simple sugars (e.g. arabinose, galactose, glucose) in the form of polysaccharides. It was found that this polysaccharide complex (5-8% of the composition of dried berries) has a strong anti-cancer effect and causes apoptosis of prostate, stomach, lung, leukemia and breast cancer cells in women. It can also support the fight against diabetes by lowering the level of glucose in the blood, too high levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, or support the proper functioning of the heart and circulatory system. Regular consumption of goji berries increases the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, or glutathione), especially in the kidneys, liver, and lungs. Therefore, in  China, goji berries are used, e.g. in liver detoxification therapies. In turn, large amounts of carotenoids (mostly zeaxanthin, β-carotene, lutein) prevent eye diseases such as macular degeneration and protect against the harmful effects of UV radiation. Large amounts of B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin) support the nervous system and the proper functioning of the brain, and vitamin C is a strong antioxidant and therefore has anti-cancer properties. They also have a lot of potassium, sodium, phosphorus, calcium, iron and selenium. They also contain a lot of organic acids, such as malic, citric, shikimic.

So many valuable substances lead to an increase in testosterone levels and an improvement in semen quality in men. Regular consumption of goji berries improves sleep, concentration, physical performance of the body, puts you in a good mood and brings calmness.

A contraindication to eating goji berries is pregnancy, blood clotting problems or taking medications for various chronic diseases.

You can safely consume 5-10 (15)g of dried berries per day.

The abundance of polyphenols in dried goji berries

  • phenylpropenoic acids (caffeic, chlorogenic, p-coumaric, ferulic acids) with antioxidant properties
  • phenylcarboxylic (gallic) acids - weaker antioxidants than the above
  • flavonols (quercetin, kaempferol, rutin) with antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, diastolic, anti-allergic, anti-sclerotic properties, slowing down the oxidation of vitamin C
  • flavanols (catechins, epicatechins) with antiviral, antibacterial, antimutagenic, antioxidant properties
