Description

Ground turmeric 1kg wonderful spice

Ground turmeric is obtained by grinding the turmeric rhizome (Curcuma longa), also known as Indian, which is a relative of ginger. India is the largest producer of turmeric. Turmeric has been used not only in the kitchen but also in the processing industry (e.g. in the production of curry or for coloring products) or cosmetics. An interesting fact is that in order to take advantage of the valuable properties of turmeric, it should be eaten in combination with a bit of piperine found in pepper or with hot pepper. Then the bioavailability of the most valuable ingredient of turmeric, i.e. curcumin, increases several times! The specific smell of turmeric is due to the presence of essential oils, mainly various forms of turmerone.

Health properties of turmeric and contraindications

The wonderful health properties of ground turmeric are due to the content of polyphenols, most of which are curcumin and several of its derivatives, such as cyclocurcumin. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cancer properties. It effectively helps fight and act prophylactically against cancer of the prostate, colon, liver, pancreas, stomach, skin and many others. In combination with a drug called taxol, it supports the fight against breast cancer in women. Ground turmeric also has choleretic, antibacterial, diastolic and even antiviral properties. Positive effects of using turmeric in the treatment of glaucoma or conjunctivitis have also been noted. It has also been found to help lower not only blood sugar but also LDL cholesterol. The above-mentioned turmerone supports the fight against neurodegenerative diseases of the brain, e.g. Alzheimer's. Turmeric is also good for depression.

Turmeric is not recommended for pregnant women as it can lead to miscarriage and for people taking anticoagulants as it enhances their effect. You can also not overdo it with curcumin supplementation, because too much in the menu can lead to diarrhea and digestive problems.

Turmeric - use in the kitchen and more

Ground turmeric is commonly used in the production of curry, mustard, sauces, e.g. Worcestershire. In the kitchen, it is used as an addition to dishes of rice, potatoes, stewed vegetables, seafood, poultry, soups, pasta, for coloring dishes (E100 dye). It has even found use in the textile industry as a dye. In the cosmetics industry, it is used to dye lipsticks, foundations, masks and even perfumes with an oriental scent. However, to get the most out of curcumin, it should be eaten in combination with fats and pepper or hot pepper, as it is poorly soluble in water. Then its bioavailability increases even twenty times.
