Ground vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) is made after grinding dried and fermented seeds from fruits, i.e. vanilla pods (Vanilla planifolia), which belongs to orchid family. Only after the fermentation process, these beans acquire a beautiful, characteristic, pleasant aroma and smell due to the content of whitish vanillin. There are several types of vanilla; Bourbon from Madagascar, Mauritanian from Seychelles and Mauritius, Mexican.

It is also added to the production of incense and candles. Vanillin has also been used in the production of antidepressants.
